Why did Mahadev choose Ash over Gold?

    Gold shines in the world.

    Vibhuti shines in the spirit.

While kings decorate themselves with jewels, Mahadev adorns Himself with sacred ash—a reminder that true wealth is not measured by ornaments, but by humility, wisdom, and devotion.

Every grain of Vibhuti reminds us that everything material eventually turns to ash, but good deeds, faith, and inner purity remain forever.

That is why millions of devotees begin their prayers by applying Vibhuti and remembering Lord Shiva.

    The Divine Shivamuth Tradition

During the holy month of Shravan, many devotees observe the sacred Shivamuth ritual, offering a different sacred grain to Lord Shiva on each Monday. Traditionally, the first Monday is marked by the offering of rice (Tandul), symbolizing purity and prosperity. The second Monday is dedicated to sesame seeds (Til), representing protection and the removal of negative energies. The third Monday is observed with green gram (Moong), signifying growth, harmony, and well-being, while the fourth Monday is offered with wheat (Gahu), praying for abundance, strength, and a blessed family life. This beautiful tradition reflects devotion, gratitude, and the timeless bond between devotees and Mahadev throughout the sacred month of Shravan.
